Today we concluded our reconstruction discussion with a friendly debate among the four potential interest groups of the time - Freedmen, Southern Democrats, Radical Republicans and the Moderates. After hashing out the opinions of each group, we learned what actually happened. The notes from class are attached below.
Homework: Reading guide 12: 1 and 4 (Yes - we are skipping chapter 11)
*Your next paper will require you interview someone who is an immigrant to our country. Please try to nail down your interviewee by next class period. If you have absolutely no idea who you can speak with, come see me.
***One last option for extra credit. After reading about Reconstruction, if you are interested there is a History Channel Documentary about the Ku KluxKlan on Youtube. Search "history channel kkk" and it is the first video that shows up. If you watch it, please do the following for extra credit: WARNING - THE KKK IS NOT A NICE GROUP. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THEY USE FOUL LANGUAGE AT POINTS IN THE DOCUMENTARY THAT ARE OFFENSIVE.
As you watched the video, it showed how the Klan has evolved throughout history. Write a one page typed, double-spaced paper on how the role of the KKK has changed from the 1860's to the 1920's to today.
