President Kennedy took office under the height of tensions with the Soviets. The Space Race, Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis put the world on the brink of nuclear holocaust. Today in class, we recreated the tensions of the era by role playing the decisions surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis. Special thanks to those who played the role of President Kennedy. If you missed today, the make up assignment is BELOW. Make up assignment if you were absent: Come borrow a test book during AIP. Turn to page 835 of your text book. Complete question number 7 using facts from the section's reading. This should be at least one page long. Homework - Work on your personal history! They are due soon!
Because of the postwar economic boom, many white, middle-class teens had more free time and spending money. Their new found purchasing power greatly influenced the new music genre of the 1950's, Rock and Roll. Today we briefly discussed the origins of this music and spent the rest of class listening to it's evolution! Fun day! Short notes are below:
In the midst of the Cold War, America was booming economically! The 1950's was an era of affluence, prosperity, and enjoyment with very specific expectations and norms. Today we examined the culture of this decade by watching a classic episode of "I Love Lucy." We took notes differently today, so if you missed them, COPY a neighbor's!!! The attached assignment is due on Tuesday! See the youtube clip below to catch a glimpse of society's norms during the 1950's. (Especially the last 2 1/2 minutes) It's a classic!
First off....some reminders! 1 - Registration with counselor approval is today! 2 - If you want to do any test corrections for the last WWII test, you must get them done ASAP 3 - Personal Histories are due May 3rd and CANNOT be turned in late. Below is attached the power point and assignment that must be completed today in class. If your registration is approved, please begin working on this task. It shouldn't take you very long! You will be required to turn it at the end of the period!
Our discussion of Communism continues as we examine the paranoia surrounding the Red Scare or fear the the evils of communism had spread into America. Our "purple dot" game helped create a state of suspicion in our classroom, similar to the fear felt among Americans at the possibility of communist infiltration. The power point is included below as well as the video clip we watched in class - Duck and Cover.
LAST TIME!!!!
I went to the zoo last Thursday with my little Kindergartener....we watched "Good Night and Good Luck" about McCarthy and his effects on the Red Scare. There was a video guide, so IF YOU WERE ABSENT.....complete the make up assignment IN CLASS during AIP or after school. Grades are final cute kiddos! Everything from here on out goes on 4th (and final) quarter. Today we took a mini test on World War II and turned in the five sets of notes from this unit. They are listed below as well as an interesting video clip show to me by a student! Check it out! Notes: 1. Causes of WWII 2. Pearl Harbor 3. Japanese Internment Camps 4. D-Day 5. War in Europe End of the quarter is near!!! Grades are final with a few exceptions....everything from here on out will go on 4th quarter.
Next class we will have a mini test before moving on to our next exciting topic, one of my VERY favorites. Please bring your notes and any assignments we have completed in class on Thursday. Today we reviewed World War II concepts. Today was most entertaining as we debated the ethical questions, "Do the ends justify the means?" After evaluating your moral ground, we connected this to history and debated the pros and cons of dropping the atomic bomb to end World War II. If you missed today, there is a make-up assignment that you can get from me. Notes are below:
With the Nazi's pressing to obtain Soviet territory, the Allies opened up a second front along the coast of France at Normandy. Today we examined the courage and heroism of these soldiers who turned the tied of war and recaptured Western Europe. If you were absent - Copy the notes below
