Before ending this unit, we had a brief discussion today on North Korea and how they became the communist nation they are today. I have attached the National Geographic video we watched in class below. Your study guide is due on Monday along with your notes. We are taking the test on Monday!!! Don't forget to work on your Personal HIstory! They are due in a week and a half!
President Kennedy took office under the height of tensions with the Soviets. The Space Race, Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis put the world on the brink of nuclear holocaust. Today in class, we recreated the tensions of the era by role playing the decisions surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis. Special thanks to those who played the role of President Kennedy. If you missed today, the make up assignment is BELOW. Make up assignment if you were absent: Come borrow a test book during AIP. Turn to page 835 of your text book. Complete question number 7 using facts from the reading as well as ONE other online source. This should be at least one page long. Homework - Work on your personal history! They are due soon!
As the Cold War dominated the political side of America, the 1950's was also a time of prosperity and enjoyment. America's income rose allowing individuals to spend time and money doing things they hadn't in decades! Today we examined the culture of this decade by watching a classic episode of "I Love Lucy." Our "purple dot" game helped create a state of paranoia in our classroom, similar to the fear felt among Americans at the possibility of communist infiltration. Welcome back from spring break! After extensively reviewing the ideologies of Capitalism and Communism, we began our study of the Cold War - see the power point below. We concluded class by looking for evidence of the capitalism and communism in the classic movie Rocky IV! Our study of the Cold War will last up until the end of the school year, so I sure hope you have a good grasp on this concept! ***You have to have your 2015 - 2016 schedule ready for registration next Monday in class*** Personal History is due May 5th - If you don't do it, you won't pass!
