Our discussion on WWI begins today as we pose the question, "When is it okay to go to war? When is it okay to get involved? Where should the line be drawn?" America's involvement in WWI was limited to the end of the war due to these very questions. The notes are attached below.

To reward you for thinking so hard last class period, today is movie day. (One of the very few days we watch a film the entire period all year long!) The movie is called "Iron Jawed Angels" if you are interested. Hope you enjoyed it!
Homework: None (unless you STILL haven't turned in your test!) If you were absent: Go to the following website - http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/wilson/peopleevents/p_paul.html Read the short article there to familiarize yourself with the topic of the film we watched. Welcome to 3rd quarter! Today we examined America's foreign policy as it changed from isolationism to imperialism. We determined whether America's motives were positive or negative - did we become world leaders or world bullies? The powerpoint from class is attached below. *If you missed class, come get the assignment from me!
YOUR TAKE HOME TEST IS DUE TODAY. YOU CAN EMAIL IT TO ME, BUT IF I DO NOT RECEIVE IT BY THE END OF THE DAY TODAY, YOU WILL BE DOCKED POINTS! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TURN IT IN.
During the Industrial Age, workers looked for ways to spend their free time when the long work day had ended. Because of this, many new types of entertainment began to develop from sports to amusement parks. Vaudeville was one of the most popular kinds! They were a set of random acts that could include gymnasts, dancers, animal tricks or comedians. Today we tried to recreate these family friendly performances in our own class. Thank you for being willing to share your talents and skills! *Reminder - Today I handed out your take home test that is due on Monday. If you lost your copy, I have attached a link below.
Hopefully today you are able to formulate your own opinions on immigration as you delve into the hot topics of national policy. We compared immigration issues at the turn of the century to those of modern times examining who should be allowed to come into our country and what expectations we should have for them. The assignment for today and the power point/notes are below.
Reminders!!!
*Next Time: Late work and extra credit are due. We are also having a special WWII day next time courtesy of Ms. Almond. Be excited! Wednesday (January 21) - Talent and Stupid Human Trick Day I will be handing out your take home test this day. It will be due the following Monday! Today you were hopefully exposed to the barriers and insecurities that accompany being an immigrant in a new country. It is not easy. During this time period in history, more immigrants came to America than at any other time. In your groups, you should have become familiar with the immigrant process at Ellis Island at the turn of the century. You will be responsible for the content you learned - it will be on the test. If you were not here, find a friend and borrow their notes.
Homework: Find an immigrant to interview. Come to class next time with a definite candidate in mind. Friday: Talent/Stupid Human Trick Day - you will lose points for not participating. Please bring some legitimate talent -OR- some strange thing you can do to share with the class. Friday: Last day to turn in late work or extra credit! Get it in people! Today we looked at the flip side of the Industrial Revolution and the wealthy investors who ran the economy. The extreme wealth they accrued was due to the shady business tactics they followed that assured their pockets were full while the general population was scraping to just get by. The power point and video from class are attached below. Homework: None ***Remember that the last day to turn in anything for your grade is next FRIDAY!!!!!***** If you were absent get the notes and the assignment below.
Today we learned about the workers and unions of the industrial era of post Civil War America. Who were these workers and what conditions did they suffer through? We looked deeper at this population by using the power point below as well as watching a clip from the fabulous film, "Newsies." **Reminder: The quarter will end next Friday, January 16. Please turn in all late work and extra credit BEFORE that day!!! ** Homework: None If you missed class: Get the notes below
