Today we continued our discussion on slavery by looking at ways slaves would resist and cope with their lives. We analyzed their options by participating in a role playing scenario. I'm back! Thank you so much for all of you who were well behaved and respectful of Mrs. Pyke. I appreciate it! Today we started a new unit on slavery. We watched clips from the popular mini series "Roots" to help you understand better first hand the process of becoming a slave and the horrors of living as one. The notes are below. Homework: None Reminder: Grades are nearly complete. If you have not taken the test, please come see me ASAP to make it up. It will go on first quarter's grade.
Test is next time, Friday. If you will not be there, you have ONE week to make it up. Please remember your notes and study guide will be due as well. Friday is also the last day to turn in any late work! You can find the link to the study guide under the homework tab!
Today we reviewed and finished the unit by discussing the War of 1812. (Powerpoint is attached below) We watched the video clip below. In your notes, you need to write 3 things the sketch tells about each party (Democrats and Republicans). The review for this unit is next time and the test is on Friday. Please remember that all late work and extra credit is due on Friday. The quarter is almost over! Do not procrastinate.
Today we discussed the differences between Adams presidency and Jefferson's presidency. The power point is below. If you were absent, please see Mrs. Pike for the make up assignment.
As the Constitution was created, the government formed into 3 branches - executive, legislative, and judicial. These three branches are the foundation of our government, each one taking on different roles and responsibilities. Today we looked at how these three branches work together. In groups you were then required to come up with your own analogy for the 3 branches of government. For details on the assignment, look at the LAST slide on the notes of the powerpoint or see the attached assignment.
In order to encourage all Americans to agree to the newly created Constitution, the Founding Father's agreed to add a Bill of Rights to protect the people's personal rights from the government. Today we examined how those rights play out in our current society by debating some hot topics that have to do with the Bill of Rights. The notes are below. Once our country became independent, we needed to create laws by which the nation would be founded. We began with the Articles of Confederation, but they proved to have many flaws. Instead, the founding fathers created our Constitution, the framework by which the country would follow. Today you examined the Constitution by participating in a scavenger hunt. Homework: None If you missed class: Get the notes from a neighbor. The assignment is below.
