Test next time! Today we spent class reviewing....the study guide is attached below. You will not be allowed to use your notes on your test - you will be turning them in first thing Monday. There are SEVEN of them: 1 - Causes of WWI (picture notes) 2 - Trench warfare - life of a soldier 3 - The War over there 4 - Roaring 20's (flappers) 5 - Roaring 20's (picture note) 6 - Causes of the Great Crash (back of your stock market game) 7 - Causes of the Great Depression
As the Great Depression rolled on year after year, various strategies were taken to fix this economic crisis. None were as vast and sweeping as President Roosevelt's New Deal. Today, you were given a job, similar to Americans under the New Deal, to help contribute to the cleanliness, happiness and success of our class as we studied this piece of legislation. Bravo to our musical, artistic, creative and clean classmates! Notes are attached below. *If you were absent - Go to the following website: http://www.ushistory.org/us/49g.asp Read the short summary of the New Deal and create a chart explaining the positive and negative aspects of the New Deal. Be thorough. You should have several items on both sides of your list.
The Great Depression caused a dark cloud to loom over our country for nearly a decade. It is difficult for us, in our modern age of convenience and prosperity, to truly understand what it must have been like. We watched a segment from the movie, "Cinderella Man" which brings this part of American history to life. If you were absent: If you can find a copy of "Cinderella Man" watch the first hour of the film and write a one page summary of how Jimmy's family was impacted by the Depression - OR - Watch the film below of personal stories from the Great Depression and write a one page summary of how people were impacted by the Depression. The 1920's was a decade of fun and carefree spending. The economy was booming, however, America was unaware of the severe financial flaws that would soon cause the greatest economic crisis in American history - the Stock Market Crash of 1929. Today we learned about the stock market and what caused it's fall. If you were absent: Notes are below
In the 1920's, new technology, including automobiles, airplanes, radios and electric appliances helped create a booming economy and increased consumer spending. Today we looked at the developing popular culture in the decade by watching a segment of Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid." If you were absent: Come get the notes from me and copy them from a neighbor. Watch the segment below: With the most devastating war to date behind us, the younger generation of Americans began living life to its fullest! Their carefree, reckless, and bold new attitudes defined the 1920's. Today we examined this group of youth known as the "flappers." Notes are attached below IF YOU WERE ABSENT - Watch the YouTube segment attached below and write a 1/2 - 1 page paper describing the trends of the decade you see. How did they dress? What did they do for fun? What attitudes are exhibited?
Happy Monday! We finished up World War I today by discussing the appropriate terms of punishment for those guilty of doing wrong. How do you balance punishment and mercy? Unfortunately, the end of WWI brought such harsh punishments on Germany that it inevitably resulted in WWII. If you were absent: Notes are below. No assignment to make up.
World War I was the first conflict where modern warfare came into play. Machine guns, mustard gas, and tanks, among others, changed the entire way people fought. Today we experienced first hand the horrors of trench life. Notes are attached below. The assignment for today is included on the last slide of the power point.
Happy Groundhog day! Today we switched gears and began the first World War. We discussed the overarching question, "When is it acceptable to get involved in a conflict situation?" Notes are attached below at the following link.
