With the most devastating war to date behind us, the younger generation of Americans began living life to its fullest! Their carefree, reckless, and bold new attitudes defined the 1920's. Today we examined this group of youth known as the "flappers." Notes are attached below IF YOU WERE ABSENT - Watch the YouTube segment attached below and write a 1/2 - 1 page paper describing the trends of the decade you see. How did they dress? What did they do for fun? What attitudes are exhibited?
Happy Monday! We finished up World War I today by discussing the appropriate terms of punishment for those guilty of doing wrong. How do you balance punishment and mercy? Unfortunately, the end of WWI brought such harsh punishments on Germany that it inevitably resulted in WWII. If you were absent: Notes are below. No assignment to make up.
World War I was the first conflict where modern warfare came into play. Machine guns, mustard gas, and tanks, among others, changed the entire way people fought. Today we experienced first hand the horrors of trench life. Notes are attached below. The assignment for today is included on the last slide of the power point.

A group of reformers began to emerge with the desire to improve society and make government accountable to the people. They were known as the progressivists. As America began asserting its authority as a world power, our eyes were drawn towards the island neighbor of Cuba. Their lucrative sugar plantations and close proximity made us even more power hungry, but what to do about it? In the late 1800's, America joined European powers in creating an overseas empire. This is called imperialism - when powerful nation exert their control over foreign territories.
